Stands—Tripod or Folding
All steel pans require specialized instrument stands that allow them to hang
freely and resonate properly when played. The Tripod stand is an excellent
height-adjustable stand, with a collapsible base allowing for quick set up.
We offer two tripod styles: Economy with single piece top and tripod base
and Professional with three piece top and tripod base. The Trinidadian style
folding stand is an excellent, height-adjustable, cross-braced stand which
also accommodates the deeper double second and cello (guitar) pans.
Mallets—Wood or Metal
The choice between wood and metal mallets is largely one of individual
preference. Either is very suitable for a student player. The metal mallets
are of aluminum construction and are very lightweight. Some players prefer
the lighter feel, while others prefer the feel of the slightly heavier wood
mallets. The mallets, wood or metal, are very durable and long lasting. The
rubber tips, however, do wear from the constant contact with the pan and
will eventually produce an inferior sound necessitating replacement.
Cases—Economy hard, Padded soft or Professional padded hard
All steel pans (steel drums), if they are going to be transported regularly,
require a case. Dropping a steel pan can be a serious matter. It can put the
instrument out of tune or even irreparably damage one or more notes. Bumping
the instrument can also be damaging. The best choice for protecting your new
student pan would be the Economy Hard case. This is a rigid, plastic fiber
case which is extremely durable and long lasting and will sufficiently
protect your instrument in ordinary use.
The Padded soft case is constructed of dense foam padding and durable
fabric. This case does offer protection of the instrument, however, not as
much as the rigid Economy hard case.
The Professional padded hard case is constructed of dense foam padding and a
hard outer shell which offers the very best protection against damage for
the instrument. |
